Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram: Punjab Police Ensures Strict Security Arrangements Across the Province Including Lahore
On 5th Muharram-ul-Haram, More Than 40,000 Officers and Personnel Performed Security Duties Across the Province
Strict Monitoring of Processions and Majalis, Ensuring Implementation of Code of Conduct and Section 144
On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, stringent security arrangements were ensured across the province including Lahore on the fifth day of the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram. Punjab Police spokesperson said that on 5th Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 40,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for mourning processions and majalis across the province. A total of 559 mourning processions and 3,967 majalis were held across Punjab, while in Lahore, 42 mourning processions were taken out and 420 majalis were organized. More than 21,000 community volunteers also assisted in the security arrangements of processions and majalis across the province. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that security across the province will remain on high alert during the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram and all resources are being utilized to maintain law and order. He said that implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab is being strictly ensured.
IG Punjab further stated that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material, and provocative activities are strictly prohibited. No processions or gatherings will be allowed except on designated routes and at approved venues. He added that all activities are being continuously monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administration. CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and other field formations have been deployed for Muharram security duties. IG Punjab directed that strict implementation of the Loudspeaker Act be ensured and indiscriminate legal action be taken against lawbreaking elements involved in spreading hate material on social media. He further said that control rooms established in all districts are linked with the central control room at the Central Police Office and will remain in constant coordination throughout Muharram-ul-Haram to ensure effective monitoring of security arrangements and prompt response to any situation.
