Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram: Punjab Police Tightens Security Arrangements Across the Province Including Lahore
On 2nd Muharram-ul-Haram: Over 30,000 Officers and Personnel Deployed Across Province for Processions and Majalis, Punjab Police Spokesperson
On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, strict security arrangements were ensured across the province including Lahore on the second day of the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram. Punjab Police spokesperson said that on 2nd Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 30,000 officers and personnel across Lahore and the province performed security duties for processions and majalis (gatherings). On the second day of Muharram, a total of 88 mourning processions and 3683 religious majalis (gatherings) were held across the province. In Lahore, 8 mourning processions were taken out and 399 religious majalis (gatherings) were held on the occasion of 2nd Muharram. Across the province, more than 16,000 community volunteers also assisted in the security arrangements of gatherings and mourning processions. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that security across the province will remain on high alert during the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram.
Implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab is being ensured. He said that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material, and provocation are strictly prohibited. Processions and gatherings are not allowed at any place other than the designated routes and venues. All activities are being fully monitored with the help of cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administration. IG Punjab said that CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and other field formations have been deployed for Muharram security. Strict implementation of the Loudspeaker Act will be ensured. Legal action will be taken against lawbreaking elements involved in spreading hate material on social media. Abdul Kareem directed RPOs and DPOs to remain in constant contact with organizers of processions and gatherings, community leaders, and religious scholars. He said that control rooms established in all districts are linked with the central control room of the Central Police Office and will remain in constant coordination at all times.
