LAHORE:Police officials were placed on high alert, deploying stringent security measures to safeguard Majalis and mourning processions across the provincial capital on the 6th of Muharram. Punjab Police spokesperson said over 45,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for mourning processions and Majalis across the province.A total of 925 mourning processions and 3,922 Majalis were held throughout the province, while in Lahore, 56 mourning processions were taken out and 425 Majalis were organised. More than 23,000 community volunteers also assisted in security arrangements for Majalis and mourning processions across the province. IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem said that security would remain on high alert across the province during the first 10 days of Muharram and implementation of Section 144 would be ensured. CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana emphasised that security would remain heightened throughout the holy month. The CCPO underscored that no Majlis or procession would be permitted outside the designated timings, routes and venues. He added that round-the-clock, real-time monitoring of all religious gatherings is being carried out through the PSCA, dedicated police control rooms and advanced technological surveillance.
He directed divisional SPs to maintain constant liaison with members of peace committees, organisers and relevant stakeholders to preempt any untoward incident.Furthermore, the CCPO noted that human intelligence operations and rigorous social media monitoring are being used to maintain peace and promote sectarian harmony, adding that a strict vigil is being kept on miscreants. IGP hears cops’ families grievances, orders reliefInspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Abdul Kareem Monday met police employees and their family members at the Central Police Office and issued directions for the immediate resolution of their administrative, welfare and service-related issues. The IGP listened to complaints and applications submitted by police personnel and their families and directed the relevant officers to provide prompt relief. On the transfer request of Constable Muhammad Shahbaz, the IGP directed the DIG Establishment-II to take necessary action. On the transfer application of Constable Hasnain, he instructed the Additional IG Training to place the matter under consideration. The widow of late Constable Khalid Mehmood also presented her application, upon which the IGP issued necessary directions to the CPO Gujranwala. Similarly, on the transfer request of Head Constable Akhtar Abbas, the Additional IG Training was directed to provide relief. The IGP also issued instructions regarding several other applications related to discipline, administration, promotions and welfare matters, reiterating that the welfare of police employees and their families remains a priority.
