Punjab Police intensified the crackdown against kite flying, thousands of accused arrested.

Punjab Police are continuing extensive operations against violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act. During the ongoing effective crackdown against kite flying across the province including Lahore this year, thousands of individuals have been arrested. Punjab Police spokesperson while giving details, said that so far 9,565 accused have been arrested for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act and 9,219 cases have been registered. During these operations, 466,986 kites and 14,574 string reels have been recovered from across the province. Punjab Police spokesperson further said that in the provincial capital Lahore, during the crackdown, 4,395 accused were arrested while 4,233 cases were registered. During this period, 118,931 kites and 4,616 string reels were also recovered. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem has issued clear instructions that kite flying will not be tolerated at any place across the province and strict action should be taken without discrimination. He further directed that elements involved in the online business of metallic string and kites should also be brought under the law. IG Punjab appealed to parents to keep their children away from this deadly game and keep a close watch on their activities. He urged citizens to act as responsible members of society by immediately reporting any instance of kite flying by calling helpline 15.
