Punjab Police have finalized comprehensive and effective security arrangements for the Pakistan-Australia International One-Day Series match to be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, directed the DIG Operations Lahore to ensure the security of the teams, match officials, cricket fans and citizens, while the CTO Lahore has been instructed to keep traffic arrangements fully in place. He said that comprehensive security will be provided to players, officials, cricket fans and citizens. Punjab Police spokesperson said that more than 8,000 police officers and personnel, including SPs, SDPOs and SHOs, have been deployed for the security of the match. In view of the prevailing security situation, security measures around the teams’ routes, places of stay and Gaddafi Stadium have been further strengthened. IG Punjab directed that patrolling by the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU) and Elite Force be further enhanced during the match, while senior police officers should conduct a complete review of all security and traffic arrangements well before the event.
He further directed that continuous monitoring of the teams’ accommodation venues, routes and the surroundings of the stadium be carried out through CCTV cameras. Snipers will also be deployed along the teams’ routes, on high-rise buildings, at Gaddafi Stadium and at other important locations. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that all police officers and personnel should remain alert and keep a close watch on miscreant elements. Cricket fans will be allowed entry into the stadium only after passing through a three-tier security cordon and screening process. He directed police officers and personnel to deal with citizens courteously and said that citizens should also fully cooperate with the police during the checking process so that the match can be held in a peaceful, secure and pleasant environment.
