Eid-ul-Adha: Punjab Police Completed Security Arrangements, High Alert Across the Province
More than 49,000 Police Officers and Personnel Deployed for Security of Eid Congregations and 222 Cattle Markets
On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police has implemented a comprehensive and coordinated security plan across the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Special security arrangements have been finalized for Eid congregations, cattle markets, bazaars, parks, tourist sites and other public places. Spokesperson for Punjab Police, while sharing details, said that more than 45,000 officers and personnel will perform security duties for Eid prayers at 30,630 mosques, Imambargahs and 907 open-air venues across the province. In addition, 316 special teams of the Quick Response Force will also remain deployed for security duties. For security, checking and surveillance, 11,130 metal detectors, 327 walkthrough gates and 15,273 CCTV cameras will be utilized.
Spokesperson further said that more than 4,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets across the province, while more than 600 officers and jawans are performing duties at six cattle markets in Lahore. In the provincial capital Lahore, more than 10,000 officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of over 5,000 Eid-ul-Adha congregations. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that, in view of the prevailing national security situation, strict surveillance be maintained on Fitna Al-Khawarij, Fitna Al-Hindustan and other anti-state elements, while additional force, plainclothes commandos and effective picketing be ensured at sensitive locations. He further directed that combing, search and sweep operations across the province be made more effective.
IG Punjab further directed that no cattle market be allowed at any place other than the points approved by the district administration, while immediate legal action be taken against illegal cattle markets and sale points. Strict vigilance should be maintained on fraudsters, pickpockets, cattle thieves and other criminal elements, while Police Response Units and patrolling teams should ensure continuous patrolling around the markets. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, 150 officers and personnel have been deployed for 23 cattle markets in Sheikhupura Region, 525 for 44 markets in Gujranwala Region, more than 340 for 22 markets in Rawalpindi Region, 170 for 22 markets in Sargodha Region, more than 538 for 19 markets in Faisalabad, more than 480 for 20 markets in Multan, more than 230 for 11 markets in Sahiwal, more than 410 for 29 markets in Bahawalpur, and more than 210 officers and personnel for 26 cattle markets in DG Khan.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that complete checking and clearance of all mosques, Imambargahs and Eidgahs be ensured before Eid prayers, while cyber patrolling be further strengthened to curb hateful content on social media. Strict implementation of SOPs issued by the Government of Punjab regarding sacrificial hides should also be ensured, while the ban on collection of hides by proscribed and banned organizations must be fully enforced. The use of loudspeakers for collecting hides will also remain prohibited. Abdul Kareem further directed that continuous digital monitoring of cattle markets, bazaars, markets, parks and other public places be ensured through Safe City cameras. Strict enforcement against display of weapons, aerial firing, one-wheeling and kite flying must also be ensured.
IG Punjab said that additional force should be deployed at parks, recreational spots and tourist areas during Eid holidays, while all available resources be utilized for the facilitation and protection of tourists at Murree and other tourist destinations. Additional traffic wardens will also be deployed on major highways and relevant points to ensure smooth traffic flow during Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
