On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police is continuing a vigorous crackdown against electricity thieves across the province. Spokesperson Punjab Police, while sharing details, said that so far this year, 24,356 cases have been registered against electricity theft across the province including Lahore, while 17,954 accused have been arrested. Challans in 15,698 cases of electricity theft have been completed, and 2,448 accused involved in electricity theft have been awarded punishments and fines by the courts. In the provincial capital Lahore, 5,757 cases of electricity theft were registered and 6,484 electricity thieves were arrested. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, while ordering the continuation of the crackdown against electricity thieves, said that priority actions should continue against the accused causing loss to the national exchequer.
