LAHORE - Under the “Drug-Free Punjab” vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police have intensified their province-wide crackdown against narcotics, arresting 15,453 drug dealers so far this year and registering 15,535 cases. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the ongoing operations are being carried out on the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, targeting major drug dealers and smugglers across the province. During these operations, police recovered 8,434 kilogrammes of charas, 935 kilogrammes of heroin, 459 kilogrammes of ice, 488 kilogrammes of opium, and over 219,000 litres of liquor from the possession of the accused. In Lahore, police arrested 1,852 drug dealers during the same period and registered 1,803 cases.
