On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police’s crackdown against electricity thieves is continuing vigorously across the province. Spokesperson Punjab Police, while sharing details, said that so far this year, 21,506 cases of electricity theft have been registered across the province, including Lahore, while 15,886 accused have been arrested. Challans of 13,749 cases of electricity theft have been completed, and 2,440 accused involved in electricity theft have been awarded punishments and fines by the courts. In the provincial capital Lahore, 4,814 cases of electricity theft have been registered and 5,323 electricity thieves have been arrested. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, while directing to continue the crackdown against electricity thieves, said that priority actions should continue against those accused of causing loss to the national exchequer.
