Punjab Police is actively engaged in ensuring enforcement of traffic laws and providing digital services, in continuation of which more than 2.652 million driving licenses have been issued during the current year. Punjab Police spokesperson said that 2,556,602 challans were issued for violations of traffic laws and fines exceeding Rs 5.44 billion were imposed. More than 30,000 smoke-emitting vehicles were challaned, 5,358 vehicles were impounded in police stations, while fitness certificates of 28 were confiscated. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, while directing to continue actions against violators of traffic laws, said that implementation of amended traffic laws, reforms, and modern systems must be ensured at all costs. He directed that strictest action be taken without discrimination against violations of traffic laws. IG Punjab further said that SHOs and SDPOs should take joint measures for elimination of traffic congestion and prevention of accidents. Crackdown should be continued against overloading, over-speeding, underage drivers, and one-way violations. He said that driving training is also being provided to citizens at 127 driving training schools of Punjab Police, while more effective measures should be taken for recovery from defaulters of traffic challans.
