6,185 accused arrested, 5,912 cases registered this year
LAHORE - Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem said that kite flying will not be tolerated anywhere in the province and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in this illegal activity. He directed that elements involved in kite flying and sale of kites be brought within the ambit of the law and violation of the Prohibition of Kite Flying Act will not be tolerated under any circumstances. IG Punjab Abdul Kareem has issued instructions to all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to ensure strict implementation of the Prohibition of Kite Flying Act and further accelerate actions against kite flying. He said that strict legal action should also be taken against elements involved in the online business of metallic string and kites. IG Punjab directed that effective monitoring of individuals involved in kite flying should be carried out with the help of drones, Safe City cameras and binoculars so that this dangerous and deadly activity can be eliminated.
He urged parents to keep their children away from this deadly game. IG Punjab appealed to citizens that if kite flying is taking place anywhere, they should immediately inform the Police Helpline 15 and prove themselves to be responsible citizens. Spokesperson of Punjab Police said that this year, across the province including Lahore, 6185 accused have been arrested and 5912 cases have been registered for violation of the Prohibition of Kite Flying Act. During the operations, 417,124 kites and 10,764 string reels were recovered. Spokesperson of Punjab Police further said that in the provincial capital Lahore, 2228 accused were arrested and 2105 cases were registered, while during the operations 10,694 kites and 3089 string reels were recovered.
