IG Punjab Directs Heightened Security Arrangements Across the Province for Day of Martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA)
More than 30,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of mourning processions and gatherings across the province, including Lahore, IG Punjab
On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, strict security arrangements have been finalized across the province on the occasion of the Day of Martyrdom of Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (RA). In view of the prevailing border situation, IG Punjab has issued orders to further tighten security. More than 30,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of mourning processions and gatherings across the province, including Lahore, while in the provincial capital Lahore more than 8,000 officers and personnel will perform duties for the security of mourning processions and gatherings.
Providing details, the spokesperson of Punjab Police said that across the province more than 20,000 officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of 217 mourning processions, while more than 10,000 officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of 994 gatherings. For checking the participants of gatherings and mourning processions, 2,029 metal detectors and 297 walk-through gates will be used. Continuous monitoring of mourning processions and gatherings will be carried out with the help of cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and the district administration. Across Punjab, including Lahore, 32 mourning processions of Category-A will be taken out, while 67 gatherings will be held. All activities will also be monitored from the Control and Monitoring Room at the Central Police Office.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that police officers and personnel should remain extremely alert and ensure complete checking of the participants of mourning processions and gatherings. Lady police personnel will be deployed for the security checking of female citizens. IG Punjab further said that commandos in plain clothes will be deployed in mourning processions, while snipers will also perform duty on rooftops along the routes. Special arrangements will be made to maintain the flow of traffic through alternate routes across the province. He directed that Dolphin Squad, PRU, Special Branch, CTD and all field formations should adopt a joint strategy for the security arrangements of the Day of Martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA). IG Punjab has also directed RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to personally check the security arrangements of mourning processions and gatherings.
