Liberty Chowk Incident: 17th Anniversary of Police Officers and Officials Martyred During the Attack on the Sri Lankan Team
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, paid tribute to the six brave martyrs of the Liberty Chowk incident and their families.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, paid homage to the six police officers and personnel who embraced martyrdom during the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team at Liberty Chowk, on the occasion of their 17th anniversary. The IG Punjab said that the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty are a source of pride for the police force. He added that Punjab Police has played a pivotal role in the revival of international cricket, as well as sports and cultural activities in the country.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, on this day in 2009, police officers and personnel thwarted the attack on the Sri Lankan team and laid down their lives in the line of duty. The martyrs include Traffic Warden Tanveer Iqbal, Head Constable Faisal Rasheed, Constables Mudassar Nadeem, Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Sultan, and Tipu Fareed. Abdul Kareem further said that the sacrifices of the martyred police officers and personnel will always remain alive in our hearts. He reaffirmed that the welfare and support of the families of the police martyrs will continue without interruption.
