Special Lady Police Patrolling Squad Formed for Protection of Women: Punjab Police Spokesperson
An important meeting was held at the Central Police Office under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, in which detailed review of security arrangements across the province during the holy month of Ramadan was undertaken. During the briefing, it was briefed that a comprehensive security plan has been finalized for more than 32,000 mosques, over 2,000 imambargahs and more than 500 minority places of worship across Punjab, including Lahore. More than 83,000 police officers, personnel and community volunteers will be deployed to ensure the security of these religious and public places.
In the provincial capital Lahore, more than 18,000 police officers, personnel and community volunteers will be deployed for the security of mosques, imambargahs, bazaars and markets. The security duty will include 238 SPs, 989 DSPs, 2,862 Inspectors, 4,787 Sub-Inspectors, 6,844 Head Constables, 55,843 Constables and more than 4,000 Lady Constables. IG Punjab directed that patrolling around mosques, imambargahs and religious places be significantly increased during the timings of Taraweeh, Iftar and Sehri. A special patrolling squad comprising lady police personnel has also been formed for the protection of women visiting bazaars and markets for shopping.
IG Punjab said that strict legal action will be taken against elements involved in profiteering and creating artificial price hikes during Ramadan. He also directed to ensure security arrangements at camp sites established for Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Ramadan Cards, and ordered adoption of a zero-tolerance policy against those demanding money from citizens withdrawing cash through the Nighaban Ramadan Card. He further said that Punjab Police will ensure extraordinary security arrangements at all Ramadan and Sahulat Bazaars, special Dastarkhwans, bus terminals and railway stations. Search, sweep and combing operations along with preventive measures will also continue across the province.
IG Punjab directed that RPOs and DPOs personally remain present in the field to review security arrangements. All security measures will be monitored through cameras of the Safe Cities Authority. IG Punjab appealed to scholars and religious leaders of all schools of thought to play their role in promoting inter-sect harmony, tolerance and peace during the holy month of Ramadan. The meeting was attended by Additional IG Investigation, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IG Logistics and Procurement, Additional IG Operations, AIG Operations and other senior officers, while Additional IG South Punjab, CCPO Lahore, RPOs, CPOs and DPOs participated through video link.
