Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Drug-Free Punjab’ Vision: Zero Tolerance Policy Against Narcotics
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed Intensified Crackdown on Major Drug Dealers and Smugglers
Operations Against Drug Menace in Educational Institutions, Hostels, and Online Platforms Further Accelerated.
Following the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Drug-Free Punjab” vision, vigorous and effective anti-narcotics operations are ongoing across the province. Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem has issued directives to further intensify the crackdown against major drug dealers and smugglers.Punjab Police spokesperson said that so far this year, 5,602 drug peddlers have been arrested across the province and 5,502 cases have been registered. During these operations, more than 3,000 kilograms of charas, 421 kilograms of heroin, 124 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), 67 kilograms of opium, and over 89,000 liters of liquor have been recovered from drug dealers.
In the provincial capital Lahore as well, comprehensive measures have been taken against narcotics. During the current year, 478 drug peddlers were arrested and 463 cases were registered. Recoveries in Lahore included 125 kilograms of charas, 4 kilograms of heroin, 25 kilograms of ice, and 4,752 liters of liquor.IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that all elements involved in the drug supply chain be brought to justice and awarded severe punishments under the law. He further emphasized accelerating actions against individuals involved in drug peddling in and around educational institutions and hostels, and taking strict action against those engaged in the online sale and purchase of drugs.
