Crime control, law and order, and public service delivery are top priorities: IG Punjab

Zero tolerance for corruption, misconduct, and disciplinary violations: Rao Abdul Kareem

Inspector General of Police Punjab, Rao Abdul Kareem, chaired the first important high-level meeting of Punjab Police at the Central Police Office, Lahore, after assuming charge. The meeting was attended by Additional IGs, Managing Director Safe Cities, DIGs, AIGs, and other senior police officers, while the Additional IG South Punjab, all RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs participated in the meeting via video link. At the start of the meeting, the senior leadership of Punjab Police congratulated Rao Abdul Kareem on assuming the office of Inspector General of Police Punjab.

Addressing the meeting, IG Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem apprised the officers of his priorities regarding law and order, crime control, and public service delivery. He said that police officers must follow discipline, rules, and procedures while performing official duties. IG Punjab said that achieving the targets given by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif regarding improvement in police station culture and traffic management is a top priority. Chief Minister’s “Safe Punjab Vision” will be achieved through teamwork, merit, and an integrated system. He made it clear that the performance of district officers will be regularly reviewed on the basis of follow-up of heinous crime cases. Senior officers must ensure accessibility for the common man and personally oversee matters of public grievance redressal.

IG Punjab said that corruption, violation of the code of conduct, and mis conduct with citizens are red lines. Strict accountability will be carried out without discrimination for misuse of authority and violation of discipline. He emphasized that the first and last objective of hardcore policing should be crime fighting, law and order, and security. IG Punjab directed RPOs and DPOs to further accelerate actions for crime control and eradication of narcotics. At the conclusion of the meeting, senior police officers assured IG Punjab of full cooperation in maintaining law and order across the province and making Punjab a cradle of peace.
