Punjab Police is taking robust action across the province against metallic string and illegal kite flying. Crackdown operations against violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act are underway in various districts of Punjab, including Lahore. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, said that Lahore Police will ensure strict compliance with the government-issued code of conduct and SOPs during the three-day Basant in the provincial capital. In Lahore, only registered kite sellers will be allowed to sell approved kites and string, while indiscriminate legal action will be taken against violators. Dr. Usman Anwar directed police officers to maintain strict monitoring of the sale and purchase of kites and string, and to ensure rigorous implementation of government SOPs related to Basant.
IG Punjab further said that during Basant in Lahore, the law will take immediate action against aerial firing, display of weapons, obscenity, and immoral behavior, and no leniency will be shown. He said that zero-tolerance policy is enforced across the province against violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act, while in Lahore, Basant has been permitted only on specific days under strict government conditions and laws. Providing details, the spokesperson for Punjab Police said that during the first month of the current year, 3,195 cases were registered across the province, including Lahore, for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act, and the accused were arrested. During this period, 252,701 kites and 5,503 string reels were recovered. Punjab Police spokesperson further said that in the provincial capital Lahore, 1,391 cases were registered, during which 87,373 kites and 1,529 string reels were recovered along with the arrest of the accused.
