LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar pinned the ranks of Superintendent of Police (SP) on 38 officers promoted from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) during a ceremony held at the Central Police Office, here on Saturday. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the promoted officers attended the rank pinning ceremony along with their family members. The IGP congratulated the officers and their families and urged them to discharge their duties with greater dedication, honesty, and professional commitment. On the occasion, Dr Usman Anwar expressed gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for appreciating police reforms and the successful operations against criminals in the Katcha areas. He said the approval of 1,000 new posts for the Crime Control Department by the chief minister reflects confidence in the performance of Punjab Police.
The IGP said that the formation of the Tourist Force will lead to the creation of an additional 980 new posts in Punjab Police, while the approval of modern equipment for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch will further strengthen efforts against terrorism and subversive activities. Dr Usman Anwar added that the approval of nearly 2,000 new posts will create more promotion opportunities across various ranks. He said that during the current year, nearly 8,000 promotions from constable to DSP rank are expected. Over the past three years, he said, 139 DSPs have been promoted to SPs, 2,567 inspectors to DSPs, and 3,456 sub-inspectors to inspectors, while an advance promotion schedule from constable to SP rank has also been issued. Additional IG Punjab Imran Arshad, Additional IG Special Branch Rao Abdul Karim, DIG Headquarters Dr Muhammad Abid Khan, DIG Establishment-I Suleman Sultan Rana, SP Anum Faryal, and other senior officers attended the ceremony.
