LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday paid tribute to the police martyrs of the GPO Chowk tragedy on its 18th anniversary. He said that Punjab Police salute those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He said that 16 officers and officials of Punjab Police laid down their lives on this day in 2008. Among those martyred in the GPO Chowk incident were two ASIs and 14 police personnel. Dr Anwar said that the memories of the police martyrs of the GPO Chowk tragedy would always remain alive, and that every soldier of the Lahore Police stood as a frontline force for the protection of the country. He further stated that the brave officers and officials who embraced martyrdom were a valuable asset of the Lahore Police. He said that employment was provided to the families of the GPO Chowk martyrs in the police department and all possible resources were being utilised for the welfare and well-being of the heirs of police martyrs.
