IG Punjab Issues Directives for Security of Chinese Experts Working on CPEC, Development Projects
An important meeting was held at the Central Police Office Lahore under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, in which detailed reviews were conducted regarding the enforcement of new traffic laws across the province, challaning of cases, completion of road certificates, progress in the arrest of proclaimed offenders of proscribed organizations, implementation of the directives of the Chief Minister Punjab, security of Chinese experts, and matters related to the repatriation of illegally residing Afghan nationals.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that after amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, there has been a clear improvement in citizens’ compliance with traffic laws. There has been a significant reduction in violations such as helmet non-usage, one-way violations, overloading, and traveling on the roofs of buses, as a result of which incidents of deaths and injuries during road travel have also decreased.
IG Punjab directed to further accelerate actions against vehicles without standard number plates and to ensure an increase in the rate of driving licensing. He clearly directed that strict action would be taken against District Traffic Officers who fail to play an effective role in the field for enforcement of traffic laws.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and all other districts have demonstrated improved performance in traffic management, challaning, and awareness campaigns. IG Punjab expressed satisfaction over the improvement in the challaning rate and the arrest of proclaimed offenders of proscribed organizations.
IG Punjab directed to complete the process of registration and verification of Imams of mosques at the earliest, ensure immediate completion of pending challans, and maintain effective coordination with prosecutors.
He emphasized further accelerating the process of repatriation of illegally residing Afghan nationals across the province including Lahore, and ensuring foolproof security of Chinese experts and residents working on CPEC as well as private and public development projects. IG Punjab also expressed satisfaction over the pace of the crackdown against drug dealers.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Special Branch Rao Abdul Karim, Additional IG Investigation Branch Punjab Shahzada Sultan, Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Naikokara, DIG SPU Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, SSP Traffic, DIG Legal Awais Ahmad Malik, DIG Welfare and Finance Zeeshan Asghar, while CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younas, Additional IG South Punjab Muhammad Kamran Khan, all RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, CTOs, District Traffic Officers, DIG Operations and Investigation Lahore, and DIG Admin Lahore participated in the meeting via video link.
