694 drug peddlers arrested and 688 cases registered in 72 hours, says Punjab Police spokesperson
In light of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives to make the province completely drug-free, Punjab Police’s vigorous and continuous crackdown is underway. Sharing details, the Punjab Police spokesperson stated that in the last 72 hours, 694 drug peddlers were arrested across the province and 688 cases were registered. During the crackdown, 907 kilograms of Charas, 445 kilograms of ice, 79 kilograms of heroin, and 11 kilograms of opium were recovered from the possession of drug dealers, while two drug peddlers were brought to justice.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has directed that operations against major drug dealers and smugglers be further intensified. He said that all individuals involved in the drug supply chain should be brought within the grip of the law and given strict punishments. The IG Punjab further said that actions against individuals involved in drug peddling around educational institutions and hostels should be accelerated, and strict action should also be taken against those involved in the online buying and selling of drugs so that the young generation can be protected from the menace of narcotics.
