IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar Chairs Key Meeting; Reviews Traffic Management Targets

 

Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar chaired an important meeting at the Central Police Office Lahore, during which the targets established under Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s vision for enhanced traffic management and citizen safety were extensively reviewed. IG Punjab ordered strict implementation of amended traffic laws, reforms, and the modern system related to traffic. He said that DPOs should fully support the traffic police in achieving traffic targets so that smooth flow of traffic and safe travel for citizens can be ensured across the province.

 

Dr. Usman Anwar directed that indiscriminate and the strictest action be taken against violations of traffic laws. He made it clear that DPOs, CTOs, and DTOs will be responsible for delivering the required results of traffic management within the given deadline. SHOs and SDPOs were also instructed to take effective measures through mutual coordination to eliminate disorderly traffic and prevent accidents. IG Punjab further said that in line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s traffic reforms, the laws are equal for everyone. IG Punjab ordered that black (tinted) glasses be immediately removed from police vehicles. Government and private vehicles and motorcycles of police officers and personnel must not, under any circumstances, be without registration plates.

 

Punjab Police spokesperson said that traffic laws will apply equally to police officers and personnel just like other citizens. In any violation related to black glasses, vehicles or motorcycles without number plates, the respective SHOs, in-charges, district officers, unit and formation heads will be held responsible. Departmental action will be taken against officers, personnel, and responsible heads for violations involving black glasses, and vehicles and motorcycles without number plates.

 

In the meeting, IG Punjab also directed further tightening of actions against drug dealers and monitoring the effective role of prosecution to ensure convictions in drug-related cases. He said that Special Branch will monitor performance regarding traffic management and eradication of drug dealing. Continuous poor performance will result in demotion of District Traffic Officers.

 

IG Punjab further said that traffic accidents, traffic law violations, progress of cases in Dispute Resolution Committees, and response time on emergency helpline 15 will also be regularly monitored. SDPOs were also directed to personally reach the crime scene in cases of burglary and theft. He made it clear that failure to ensure convictions in drug cases will be the responsibility of SDPOs, while drug addicts should not be seen on roads anywhere in the province. The meeting was attended by Additional IG Investigation Shahzada Sultan, Additional IG Special Branch Rao Abdul Kareem, DIG IT, DIG Traffic, CTO Lahore/DIG PHP, SSP Traffic, AIG Operations, and AIG Admin & Security. In addition, Additional IG South Punjab, all RPOs, CPOs, CTOs, District Traffic Officers, and Divisional SPs participated in the meeting via video link.
