Following the directives of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police are actively carrying out anti-drug operations province-wide to achieve a Drug-Free Punjab. Punjab Police spokesperson while providing details, said that during the current year, 86,441 raids were conducted at the hideouts of drug dealers. 50,364 suspects involved in drug trafficking were arrested and cases were registered against them. From the possession of the arrested suspects, 29,492 kilograms of charas, 2,814 kilograms of heroin, 1,843 kilograms of ice, 2,575 kilograms of opium, and 697,368 liters of liquor were recovered.
The spokesperson further said that in the provincial capital, Lahore, during anti-narcotics operations, the police arrested more than 10,000 drug dealers. From the possession of the arrested suspects, 4,864 kilograms of charas, 532 kilograms of heroin, 1,024 kilograms of ice, 297 kilograms of opium, and 56,486 liters of liquor were recovered. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered an acceleration of special operations against drug dealers, distributors, and smugglers, stating that all suspects involved in the supply chain must be brought to justice and strict punishments must be ensured. Dr. Usman Anwar further directed that operations against elements involved in drug trafficking around educational institutions and hostels should be intensified to protect the younger generation from the scourge of drugs.
