Punjab Police’s operations are continuing to prevent smog, control air pollution, and ensure environmental protection. Sharing the details, the spokesperson of Punjab Police said that during the last 24 hours, 24 cases were registered and violators were arrested in various districts, including Lahore, as part of the smog crackdown. During the operations, fines amounting to over Rs. 500,000 were imposed on 217 individuals, while 9 persons were issued warnings. A total of 66 violations were reported for burning crop residue, 74 for smoke-emitting vehicles, and 5 for brick kiln violations.
Punjab Police spokesperson further said that during the current year, a total of 2,074 cases have been registered and 1,879 violators arrested across various districts, including Lahore, as a result of the smog crackdown. During this period, fines amounting to over Rs. 217.5 million were imposed on 85,455 individuals, while more than 11,000 individuals were issued warnings. A total of 863 violations were reported for burning crop residue, 51,332 for smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,701 for industrial activities, and 3,289 for brick kilns. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed the concerned officers to further intensify the anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural lands, and other locations. He emphasized that strict and immediate action should be taken under a zero-tolerance policy against those violating smog SOPs.
