Punjab Police Intensify Crackdown on Smog and Air Pollution, Dozens of Cases Registered
Heavy Fines Imposed and Several Individuals Arrested During Operations in Lahore and Other Districts

Punjab Police’s operations to curb smog, control air pollution, and protect the environment are in full swing. Sharing details, the spokesperson of Punjab Police said that during the past 24 hours, 26 cases have been registered in Lahore and other districts, while several law violators have been arrested during the operations. According to the spokesperson, 105 individuals were fined more than Rs. 900,000 for violating smog SOPs, while warnings were issued to 52 persons. During Punjab Police’s operations, 9 violations related to the burning of crop residue, 150 violations involving smoke-emitting vehicles, 8 concerning industrial activities, and 22 related to brick kilns were reported. So far this year, a total of 1,864 cases have been registered and 1,801 law violators arrested during anti-smog crackdowns in Lahore and various districts. Fines exceeding Rs. 160 million have been imposed on 60,498 individuals, while more than 16,000 people have been issued warnings. Reported violations include 585 for burning crop residues, 55,842 related to smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,665 involving industrial activities, and 3,212 related to brick kilns. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed concerned officers to further intensify the anti-smog crackdown on highways, in industrial areas, and at agricultural sites. He directed that strict and immediate action should be taken under a zero-tolerance policy against those violating smog SOPs.
