Punjab Police Continue crackdown to Prevent Smog, Air Pollution, and Protect the Environment
In the Last 24 Hours: 14 Cases Registered, 115 Fined, 53 Issued Warnings.
Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a “Smog-Free Punjab,” Punjab Police continue their operations to prevent smog, air pollution, and ensure environmental protection. Punjab Police spokesperson provided details, that during the last 24 hours, a crackdown against smog was conducted in Lahore as well as in various districts of the province. During this operation, 14 cases were registered, while several lawbreakers were apprehended. In the process, 115 individuals were fined a total of 10 million rupees, and 53 individuals were issued warnings. Violations reported included 13 cases of crop residue burning, 86 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 5 cases related to industrial activities, and 10 violations at brick kilns.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, during the current year, a total of 1,642 cases were registered across Lahore and other districts of the province during anti-smog crackdowns, while 1,571 lawbreakers were arrested. In the same period, fines exceeding 150 million rupees were imposed on 60,275 individuals, and 15,806 individuals were issued warnings. Furthermore, violations included 500 cases of crop residue burning, 55,763 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 1,599 cases related to industrial activities, and 3,185 cases at brick kilns. Inspector General Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has issued instructions to further accelerate the anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural locations, and other regions. IG Punjab directed that strict action under the zero-tolerance policy must be taken without any delay against those violating the smog SOPs.
