IG Punjab Orders Province-Wide Crackdown on Kite Flyers, Sellers, and Manufacturers.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has taken notice of the incident in which a citizen, Nouman, died allegedly due to kite flying in the area of Police station Nawan Kot, Lahore, and has asked the CCPO Lahore to submit a report on the matter. IG Punjab has directed DIG Operations Lahore to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved in kite flying, emphasizing the enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that strict adherence to the Kite Flying Prohibition Amendment Bill must be ensured. He has directed RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs to intensify the crackdown against kite flyers, sellers, and manufacturers. IG Punjab clarified that no tolerance will be allowed for this deadly activity, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in this dangerous trade. He further said that individuals involved in the online business of selling metal strings and kites will also be brought under the law's purview.
Dr. Usman Anwar appealed to parents to keep their children away from this deadly game and urged citizens to report any kite flying activities to 15, demonstrating responsible citizenship.
Punjab Police spokesperson shared that this year, across the province, 5,967 individuals have been arrested, and 5,784 cases have been registered for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act. During operations, police seized 529,814 kites, 21,301 reels of string, and submitted challans for 5,362 cases. According to the spokesperson, in the provincial capital Lahore, 1,654 individuals were arrested, 1,620 cases were registered, 35,420 kites were seized, and 1,753 reels of string were recovered.
