Following CM Maryam Nawaz’s Directives, Punjab Police Intensify Crackdown on Electricity Theft

On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police’s crackdown against electricity thieves is underway in full force. Providing details, Punjab Police spokesperson said that so far this year, 75,582 cases have been registered against electricity thieves across the province. A total of 51,948 individuals involved in electricity theft have been arrested from Lahore and other areas of the province. Challans for 50,980 cases of electricity theft have been completed, while over 11,000 accused involved in electricity theft have been convicted and fined by the courts. Punjab Police spokesperson further said that 21,697 cases of electricity theft have been registered in the provincial capital Lahore, and 26,760 electricity thieves have been arrested. Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered to continue the crackdown against electricity thieves. IG Punjab directed that priority actions should be taken against those elements causing loss to the national exchequer.
