LAHORE - Punjab Police intensified its crackdown to curb smog and protect the environment across the province to maintain a clean and smog-free atmosphere. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 562 accused had been arrested and 591 cases registered so far this year during the anti-smog operations. In Lahore, 40 individuals were arrested and 32 cases registered for violating environmental and smog control laws. The spokesperson added that challans were issued to more than 268,000 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 23,398 vehicles were impounded, and fitness certificates of 272 vehicles were suspended during the campaign. Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar directed all field formations to intensify the crackdown with zero tolerance against violators of smog SOPs. He instructed police teams to continue strict enforcement in industrial, agricultural, and urban areas, ensuring comprehensive action to prevent environmental pollution and protect public health.
