Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to promote industrial, economic, and tourism activities : decision to reorganize the SPU

In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to promote industrial, economic, and tourism activities across the province, it has been decided to reorganize the Special Protection Unit (SPU) to further strengthen the security of foreign citizens and Chinese nationals. The unit’s capacity will be enhanced through the establishment of regional offices, modern training modules, technology, and logistics.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar visited the SPU Headquarters in Manawan. On this occasion, DIG SPU & Welfare Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin, DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, CTO Lahore DIG Athar Waheed, and Chief Administration Officer Safe Cities Amara Athar, along with other senior officers, were present.
During the visit, DIG SPU briefed IG Punjab on the unit’s security monitoring systems. IG Punjab directed the formation of a committee to prepare a draft of recommendations for the reorganization of SPU at the regional level. He also instructed the formulation of a service structure and promotion roadmap for SPU personnel. The briefing stated that after completing their tenure in SPU, personnel will be able to join the district police and subsequently become eligible for promotion to higher ranks during their service career. IG Punjab directed early completion of the under-construction SPU Headquarters in Ladheke, as well as the provision of modern facilities including construction and renovation of workstations, washrooms, offices, and barracks at Manawan Headquarters. He also reviewed the security arrangements and monitoring of foreign citizens’ movement through the modern vehicle tracking system in the Operations Room. Dr. Usman Anwar appreciated the professional expertise of the force in operational and security matters, stating that the Special Protection Unit is providing a highly secure environment for foreign experts, investors, and tourists. He added that SPU’s role in safeguarding CPEC and other national projects is exemplary.
