On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft across the province, including Lahore. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 55,000 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves across Punjab this year, resulting in the arrest of 37,756 accused individuals. Challans for 34,641 electricity theft cases have been completed and submitted to the courts. Punjab Police spokesperson further added that over 2,000 offenders involved in causing losses to the national exchequer have been fined and sentenced. In the provincial capital Lahore alone, more than 14,000 FIRs have been registered for electricity theft and 17,923 suspects have been arrested. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that the crackdown against electricity theft must continue with full force and that strict, priority-based action should be taken against those causing damage to the national treasury.
