Ashra-e-Muharram: Punjab police ensuring strict security measures across the Province.
On the 7th of Muharram, over 60,000 officers & personnel performed security duties for processions and Majalis across Lahore and the province – Punjab Police Spokesperson
On the instructions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, strict security arrangements were ensured by Punjab Police across Lahore and the entire province on the seventh day of Ashura Muharram. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, on the 7th of Muharram, more than 60,000 officers and personnel carried out security duties for processions and Majalis across Lahore and the rest of the province. On this day, over 4,000 police officers and personnel were deployed for security duty in the provincial capital. Across the province, a total of 1,373 mourning processions and 3,865 Majalis were held. In Lahore, in connection with the 7th of Muharram, 98 mourning processions were taken out and 424 Majalis were held. More than 27,000 community volunteers assisted in the security arrangements of these processions and gatherings throughout the province. G Punjab said that the security will remain on high alert across the province throughout Ashura Muharram. Implementation of Section 144, imposed by the Government of Punjab, is being strictly enforced.
IG Punjab emphasized that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material, and incitement are strictly prohibited. Under the Code of Conduct, no processions or Majalis are permitted outside of designated routes and locations. All activities are being fully monitored through cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administrations. CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and other field formations are deployed for Muharram security. Dr. Usman Anwar instructed officers to ensure strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act. Legal action must be taken against lawbreakers spreading hateful content on social media. IG Punjab said that all control rooms established in districts are connected with and in constant communication with the Central Control Room at the Central Police Office.
