First decade of Muharram: Punjab Police ensuring Strict Security Arrangements Across the Province.
On 2nd Muharram, over 26,000 officers and personnel secured processions and gatherings across the province, Punjab Police Spokesperson.
Under the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, stringent security arrangements were ensured across Lahore and the entire province on the second day of Muharram. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, over 26,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for processions and majalis throughout the province on 2nd Muharram. In the provincial capital alone, more than 2,800 police officers and personnel were deployed on security duty on this day. Across the province, 90 mourning processions and 3,495 majalis were held. In Lahore, in connection with 2nd Muharram, 8 mourning processions were taken out and 386 majalis were organized.
More than 14,000 community volunteers assisted in the security arrangements for majalis and processions throughout the province. IG Punjab said that security will remain on high alert across the province during the first ten days of Muharram. Strict enforcement of Section 144 by the Punjab government is being ensured.
IG Punjab emphasized that aerial firing, display of weapons, propagation of hate material, and incitement are strictly prohibited. No processions or gatherings are allowed at any location other than designated routes and venues. With the assistance of cameras installed by the Safe Cities Authority and district administration, all activities are being closely monitored.
CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, and other field formations including PRU are deployed for Muharram security. Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to strictly enforce compliance with the Loudspeaker Act. He also ordered the crackdown on lawbreakers spreading hateful content on social media. IG Punjab said that control rooms established in all districts remain connected and in constant communication with the Central Control Room at the Central Police Office.
