Inspector General of Punjab Police has said that Punjab Police is ensuring strict security arrangements across the province in view of Muharram-ul-Haram. On the 1st of Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 25,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for processions and Majalis across the province including Lahore. Punjab Police spokesperson said that on the 1st of Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 2,600 police officers and personnel were deployed for security duty in the provincial capital. A total of 96 mourning processions and 3,253 Majalis were held across the province.
In Lahore, on the occasion of the 1st of Muharram, 10 mourning processions were taken out and 402 Majalis were held. More than 32,000 community volunteers are also assisting in the security arrangements of Majalis and mourning processions across the province. IG Punjab said that during the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram, security will remain on high alert throughout the province. Implementation of Section 144, imposed by the Government of Punjab, is being ensured.
IG Punjab said that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hateful material, and incitement are strictly prohibited. No processions or Majalis are allowed at any location other than the designated routes and venues. All activities are being fully monitored with the help of cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administration. CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and other field formations have been deployed on Muharram security.
Dr. Usman Anwar directed the officers to ensure strict compliance with the Loudspeaker Act. Crack down on lawbreakers involved in spreading hateful content on social media must be ensured. IG Punjab said that control rooms established in all districts are connected to the Central Control Room of the Central Police Office and remain in constant contact.
