Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s Vision: Punjab Police in Action to Ensure Implementation of Traffic Laws
Over 159,000 Driving Licenses Issued in One Week; More Than 278,000 Challans and Fines Worth Rs. 157 Million Imposed, Punjab Police Spokesperson
In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police is actively working across the province, including Lahore, to ensure the enforcement of traffic laws. Punjab Police Spokesperson shared that over the past week, more than 159,000 citizens were issued driving licenses. Over 278,000 challans were issued for traffic violations, and fines amounting to more than Rs. 157 million were imposed. Challans were issued to 5,526 smoke-emitting vehicles, and 519 of these were impounded at police stations.
Punjab Police Spokesperson further shared that during the current year, more than 3.471 million citizens have been issued driving licenses. Over 4.983 million challans have been issued for traffic violations, and fines exceeding Rs. 3 billion have been collected. This year, over 224,000 smoke-emitting vehicles have been challaned, and 1,924 have been impounded at police stations.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that action against those who violate traffic laws will continue and effective measures should be taken to recover unpaid traffic fines. Citizens are also being trained at 127 driving training schools of Punjab Police. IG Punjab added that citizens are being educated on road safety, driving licensing, and traffic awareness at the driving training centers. He further said that driving without a license is a crime, and it is extremely important for drivers to carry a valid license. Citizens can apply online for learner licenses, regular license renewals, and duplicate licenses.
