16th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Police Officers and Personnel of the Attack on the Sri Lankan Team at Liberty Chowk
IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar paid a glowing tribute to the 06 brave martyrs of the Liberty Chowk incident and their families.
On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the tragic Liberty Chowk incident, where six police officers and personnel were martyred during the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, paid heartfelt tribute to the brave martyred heroes and their families. Dr. Usman Anwar stressed that the sacrifices made by these brave martyrs in the line of duty are honoured and deeply respected. He emphasised that the Punjab Police has played a crucial role in reviving international cricket, sports, and cultural activities in Pakistan. On this very day in 2009, the police officers and personnel courageously thwarted the attack on the Sri Lankan team but tragically gave their lives in the process. The martyrs included Traffic Warden Tanveer Iqbal, Head Constable Faisal Rashid, Constables Mudassir Nadeem, Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Sultan, and Tipu Fareed. Dr Usman Anwar further said that the sacrifices of these martyrs will forever remain in our hearts, and the welfare and support of the families of these brave officers will continue to be a priority.
