ICC Champions Trophy matches are continuing in a peaceful and safe environment, and Punjab Police are on high alert. Search and combing operations are being conducted across the province on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, in continuation of which 399 search and combing operations were conducted across the province in the last 24 hours. A spokesperson of the Punjab Police said that 13491 people were questioned; 53 suspects and 42 wanted persons were arrested. 18 guns and 05 Kalashnikovs were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. So far this year, 16,577 search and combing operations have been conducted across the province. More than 384,000 people have been questioned and 3,127 suspects have been detained. 51 pistols, 30 Kalashnikovs, 26 guns and 15,551 bullets have been recovered from the possession of the suspects.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed the rapid continuation of search, sweep and intelligence-based combing operations. IGP Punjab instructed that regular search and combing operations should be conducted on a daily basis in sensitive places, educational institutions, bus stands, hotels and inns. In view of the security of the Champions Trophy, keep a close watch on anti-national elements. No effort should be spared to organise international matches in a peaceful and safe environment. Continue coordination with all institutions, including the Pakistan Cricket Board, district administration and security agencies. Dr. Usman Anwar further said that snipers are deployed at the residences of the players, routes, stadiums and nearby high-rise buildings. Safe Cities cameras should be used to continuously monitor important locations including team routes, stadiums, etc. Anti-social elements involved in illegal activities should be brought to book. IG Punjab said that fans should cooperate with Punjab Police to enjoy international cricket in a safe environment.
