In line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a Drug-Free Punjab, anti-drug operations by the police continue across the province under the supervision of IG Punjab. In this regard, during the first month of this year, 8,840 raids were conducted on drug dealers' hideouts across the province, resulting in the arrest of 5,303 accused involved in the drug trade, and 5,329 cases were registered. Punjab Police spokesperson provided further details, stating that during these operations, 3,429 kilograms of charas, 204 kilograms of heroin, 216 kilograms of opium, 84 kilograms of ice, and over 121,000 liters of alcohol were seized. Additionally, 3 individuals suffering from addiction were admitted to rehabilitation centers for treatment. In the provincial capital, 997 raids were conducted on drug dealers' hideouts, leading to the arrest of 1,031 accused and the registration of 997 cases. From the arrested suspects, 712 kilograms of charas, 12 kilograms of heroin, 73 kilograms of opium, 17 kilograms of ice, and over 6,300 liters of alcohol were seized. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered further acceleration of special operations against drug dealers and smugglers, ensuring that all culprits involved in the supply chain are brought to justice and receive harsh punishments. IG Punjab also directed field police officers to increase intelligence-based operations, particularly around educational institutions and hostels.
