Punjab Police Issues SOPs for the Assistance of Mentally and Physically Disabled persons and Transgenders, Punjab Police Spokesperson
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has taken a noble initiative for the vulnerable segments of society by issuing the first standing order of 2025. According to the standing order, Punjab Police has issued SOPs for assisting mentally and physically disabled persons and transgenders.
Inspector General of Police Punjab said that under the standing order, the police will provide full support, guidance, and services to individuals who are victims of mental and physical abuse, gender discrimination and crimes and will respond immediately in the event of any crime against these vulnerable segments of society. He further said that equal rights, dignity, respect, and protection will be ensured for mentally and physically disabled individuals and transgenders. IG Punjab said that trained crisis intervention officers will engage with affected individuals in a soft tone and with courtesy to control the situation. Additionally, in emergency situations, the police will safely transport mentally and physically disabled individuals to medical experts and treatment centers. Dr. Usman Anwar further mentioned that the mental and physical disabilities, gender dignity, and privacy of the affected individuals will be taken into account, and in the event of a crime, the police will strictly adhere to SOPs for detaining such individuals. He also said that female police officers will conduct searches and provide assistance to mentally and physically disabled women and transgenders and the Additional IG Training will ensure the training of the force for dealing with mentally and physically disabled individuals and transgenders.
