Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that the approval of the Bill for a complete ban on kite flying and declaring it a non-bailable offense by the Punjab Government is appreciable. Punjab Police will ensure strict implementation of the Kite Flying Prohibition Amendment Bill. He further said that Punjab Police is continuing its operations under the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province, including Lahore. IG Punjab has directed RPOs and DPOs to expedite the crackdown against kite flyers, kite sellers, and manufacturers. He emphasized that no tolerance will be allowed for such life-threatening activities, and a zero-tolerance policy should be adopted against those involved in this deadly business. IG Punjab also directed that those involved in the online trade of metal strings and kites should also be brought under the law. IG Punjab further instructed that parents should keep their children away from this deadly game, while teachers and civil society should play their part in preventing dangerous games and businesses. Citizens should show responsibility by reporting kite flying activities to 15.
Providing details, spokesperson for Punjab Police shared that in the first 20 days of this year, 320 accused have been arrested and 311 cases have been registered across the province for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act. He further said that 17,281 kites, 649 kite reels were recovered, and challans for 191 cases were submitted. In the provincial capital, 142 suspects were arrested and 150 cases were registered. From the arrested suspects, 509 kites and 115 kite reels were also recovered.
