In the compliance of the drug-free Punjab vision of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, anti-narcotics operations by the police teams continue across the province this year, under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar. In continuation of this mission, over 1700 raids were carried out at drug dealers’ hideouts across the province during this year. Punjab Police spokesperson, while providing details, shared that 1031 accused involved in the drug trade were arrested, and 1026 cases were registered. Police also recovered 704 kilograms of charas, 36 kilograms of heroin, 3 kilograms of opium, 16 kilograms of ice, and over 15,000 liters of alcohol from the possession of the arrested criminals. Furthermore, three individuals addicted to drugs were admitted to rehabilitation centers for treatment.
The spokesperson of Punjab Police further shared that in the provincial capital Lahore, 250 raids were conducted on drug dealers' hideouts this year, resulting in the arrest of 255 accused and the registration of 250 cases. From the arrested suspects, 106 kilograms of charas, one kilogram of heroin, one kilogram of opium, six kilograms of ice, and approximately 1900 liters of alcohol were recovered. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed to intensify special operations against drug dealers and smugglers, directing that all accused involved in the supply chain should be arrested and given severe punishments. IG Punjab has also directed to accelerate intelligence-based operations around educational institutions and hostels.
