Punjab Police actively Working with Other departments to Prevent Smog and Protect the Environment.

 

Under the guidance of Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively working with other departments to prevent smog and protect the environment. Strict actions are being taken against violations of smog SOPs. Punjab Police spokesperson shared that in the last 24 hours, 04 cases were registered, 03 lawbreakers were arrested, 417 violators were fined over 8 lakh rupees, and 32 individuals were issued warnings. 

 

Spokesperson further said that there were 02 violations related to burning crop residues and 326 violations by vehicles emitting excessive smoke. Since the beginning of this year’s anti-smog crackdown, a total of 3504 individuals have been arrested, and 3954 cases have been registered. Additionally, 8138 individuals have been warned, and over 11 crore, 37 lakh rupees in fines have been imposed on 48188 individuals. Furthermore, 2123 violations for burning crop residues and 40970 violations for excessive vehicle smoke were reported. The spokesperson also provided details on industrial activities, reporting 385 violations, 1481 violations at brick kilns, and 367 violations at other locations. 

 

Regarding actions against smoke-emitting vehicles, the spokesperson mentioned that in the last 24 hours, 4400 vehicles emitting excessive smoke were fined, and 345 were impounded. The spokesperson also shared that this year, 19 lakh, 76 thousand, 230 vehicles emitting excessive smoke have been fined on highways. Additionally, 3 lakh, 64 thousand, 821 vehicles have been impounded, and 20 thousand, 249 vehicles have had their fitness certificates suspended.

 

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed to continue anti-smog actions on highways, industrial areas, agricultural sites, and other locations, adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards violations of smog SOPs.
