Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively working with other departments to prevent smog and protect the environment. Strict action is being taken against violators of smog SOPs. Spokesperson for Punjab Police said that in the last 24 hours, 8 cases were registered across the province, 6 lawbreakers were arrested, and fines amounting to over 7.56 lakh rupees were imposed on 517 violators. Additionally, 32 individuals were issued warnings. A total of 2 cases of crop residue burning and 414 violations related to vehicles emitting excessive smoke were reported. So far this year, in the ongoing anti-smog crackdown, 3,286 individuals have been arrested, 3,807 cases registered, and 7,631 people have been warned. Over 10 crore and 18 laoh rupees in fines have been imposed on 41,961 violators. These violations include 2,075 cases of crop residue burning, 35,095 instances of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 365 industrial activities, 1,417 brick kiln violations, and 363 violations at other locations. In the last 24 hours, 4,288 vehicles emitting excessive smoke were fined, and 405 were impounded. This year, a total of 916,733 vehicles have been fined for emitting excessive smoke, with 175,884 vehicles impounded and 10,096 vehicles' fitness certificates suspended. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed the continued operations against smog in highways, industrial areas, agricultural zones, and other locations, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy against violators of smog SOPs.
