On the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police continues its active efforts to combat smog and ensure environmental protection. Strict actions are being taken against violations of smog SOPs without any discrimination. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, 8 cases were registered across the province in the last 24 hours, leading to the arrest of 2 individuals. Additionally, fines exceeding Rs. 859,000 were imposed on 514 violators. Violations included two instances of burning crop residue and 412 cases of excessive smoke emission from vehicles. So far this year, the anti-smog crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 3,248 individuals and the registration of 3,769 cases. Warnings have been issued to 7,503 people, and fines totaling more than Rs. 98.4 million have been imposed on 39,811 violators. Violations include 2,059 cases of burning crop residue, 34,442 cases of excessive smoke-emitting vehicles, 364 instances of industrial violations, 1,410 incidents related to brick kilns, and 360 violations at other locations. In the past 24 hours alone, challans were issued to 5,510 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 525 vehicles were impounded, and the fitness certificate of one vehicle was suspended. Over the year, a total of 880,201 vehicles have been fined for excessive smoke emissions, 171,796 vehicles were impounded, and 10,108 fitness certificates were suspended. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that the anti-smog crackdown be intensified across highways, industrial zones, agricultural areas, and other locations. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy and strict legal action against those violating smog SOPs.
