In line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision for a safer Punjab, Punjab Police continues its relentless crackdown on illegal firearms. Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, comprehensive operations are being conducted across Lahore and various districts to eliminate illegal weapons. These efforts have resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of arms. So far this year, police across the province have recovered 1,560 Kalashnikovs, 39,485 pistols, 3,352 shotguns, 2,936 rifles, and 733 revolvers from criminal elements. In addition, millions of rounds of ammunition and cartridges have been confiscated. In Lahore alone, police have seized 127 Kalashnikovs, 8,480 pistols, 592 rifles, 321 shotguns, and 95 revolvers, along with 47,000 rounds of ammunition and hundreds of cartridges from the offenders.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that strict legal action should be taken without delay against individuals involved in aerial firing. He emphasized that those promoting weapons on social media and TikTok videos should be brought to justice without discrimination. Dr. Usman Anwar also directed that the inspection of licenses and stock of arms dealers be carried out regularly. He instructed RPOs and DPOs to send weekly reports on the crackdown against illegal arms to the CCPO.
