IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar’s Directive: Punjab Police accelerated the actions to prevent Smog and Protect the Environment.

Following the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively working in all districts of the province, including Lahore, to prevent smog and ensure environmental protection. In this regard, during the last 24 hours, a smog crackdown led to the registration of 49 cases, the arrest of 7 individuals, and the imposition of fines totaling nearly 2 million rupees on 439 people. Additionally, 36 individuals were issued warnings. The violations reported during the crackdown include 27 cases of burning crop residue, 327 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 6 cases of industrial activities causing pollution, 11 cases related to brick kilns, and 6 other violations. This year, under the ongoing anti-smog crackdown, a total of 2407 individuals have been arrested, and 2990 cases have been registered. Over 27,301 people have been fined a total of more than 63.7 million rupees. Additionally, 1469 individuals have been issued warnings. Spokesperson for Punjab Police further said that violations reported include 1748 cases of burning crop residue, 23,849 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 319 cases related to industrial activities, 1180 cases concerning brick kilns, and 284 other violations. In the last 24 hours, 8097 challans were issued for vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 556 vehicles were impounded, and the fitness certificates of 5 vehicles were suspended. So far this year, a total of 772,315 challans have been issued for vehicles emitting excessive smoke on roads. In total, 160,957 vehicles have been impounded, and the fitness certificates of 10,031 vehicles have been suspended. IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered an acceleration of the smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural zones, and other locations. He emphasized that there should be zero tolerance for violations of smog SOPs, and strict action should be taken against those responsible without delay.
