IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar’s directive: Punjab Police intensified the crackdown for Smog Prevention & Environmental Protection.

 

Under the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively engaged in smog prevention and environmental protection across all districts of the province. In the past 24 hours, 104 cases were registered, and 25 individuals were arrested during the smog crackdown in various districts, including Lahore. Fines exceeding 792,000 rupees were imposed on 424 individuals, while 36 individuals were issued warnings. Violations reported included 29 cases of burning crop residues, 325 cases of excessive smoke-emitting vehicles, 2 cases of industrial activity violations, 18 cases involving brick kilns, and 13 violations at other locations. Punjab Police Spokesperson said that a total of 2,095 individuals have been arrested and 2,483 cases registered during this year’s anti-smog  crackdown. Overall, fines  more than 49.9 million rupees have been imposed on 21,466 individuals and 1,346 individuals have been issued warnings. Punjab Police spokesperson added that violations included 1,481 cases of burning crop residues, 18,476 cases of excessive smoke-emitting vehicles, 312 cases of industrial activity violations, 890 cases involving brick kilns, and 346 violations at other locations. Spokesperson further mentioned that in the past 24 hours, 5,961 smoke-emitting vehicles were issued challans, 741 vehicles were impounded, and fitness certificates of 3 vehicles were suspended. This year, challans have been issued to 736,351 smoke-emitting vehicles on the roads, 157,599 vehicles were impounded, and fitness certificates of 10,019 vehicles were suspended. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed an acceleration of the anti-smog crackdown on roads, industrial areas, agricultural fields and other locations, emphasizing that strict action under zero tolerance policy must not be delayed against those violating smog SOPs. Police teams have been directed to maintain close coordination with the environmental department during the anti-smog operations.
