On the instructions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively ensuring timely actions to prevent smog and protect the environment across all districts, including Lahore, Cases, fines, and arrests are being imposed against those violating smog SOPs. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, within the last 24 hours, violations has been reported such as incidents of stubble burning (15 cases), high-emission vehicles (108), industrial activities (5), brick kilns (5), and other locations (1). During the smog crackdown across various districts, 8 cases were registered, and 6 individuals were arrested. Fines totaling Rs. 487,000 were imposed on 115 individuals, while 17 were issued warnings. Spokesperson punjab police further shared that, this year, a total of 1,545 individuals have been arrested, and 1,676 cases registered in anti-smog operations. Additionally, fines exceeding Rs. 27.4 million have been imposed on 10,550 individuals, with 913 people receiving warnings. Violations reported this year include: 1,025 incidents of crop residue burning, 12,916 for high-emission vehicles, 301 for industrial activity, 553 for brick kilns, 40 for BBQs, and 175 at other locations. Punjab Police spokesperson also shared that, in the last 24 hours, 5,053 vehicles with high emissions were challaned and 443 were impounded. This year, over 705,000 vehicles have been challaned, 154,529 vehicles impounded, and fitness certificates for over 10,000 vehicles suspended.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed supervisory officers to further intensify the anti-smog crackdown on roads, industrial areas, and other locations. He emphasized enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against those violating smog SOPs and ensuring that performance reports are sent to the Central Police Office.
