Under the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively conducting strict crackdown against illegal weapons. Operations across all districts, including Lahore, have resulted in the recovery of thousands of dangerous weapons. Spokesperson for the Punjab Police said that this year alone, a total of 1,437 Kalashnikovs, 37,420 pistols, 3,136 shotguns, 2,783 rifles, 689 revolvers, and millions of rounds of ammunition and cartridges have been seized from the possession of accused throughout the province. During the crackdown in the provincial capital, police recovered 123 Kalashnikovs, 7,918 pistols, 564 rifles, 298 shotguns, 123 revolvers, and 44,000 rounds of ammunition and cartridges. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed strict legal action against culprits involved in the promotion of weapons on social media and those engaged in celebratory gunfire. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed strict legal action against individuals promoting weapons and engaging in aerial firing on social media. He instructed that those displaying weapons in TikTok videos should be apprehended by the law without exception. He has also instructed that the licenses of dealers involved in the weapon trade and the stock inspection process be regularly conducted. IG Punjab has instructed that RPOs and DPOs must consistently submit weekly reports on the crackdown against illegal weapons to the Central Police Office.
