Punjab Police intensified crackdown for Smog Prevention and Environmental Protection
758 cases registered this year against violators causing smog by stubble & crop residue burning at other locations.
A total of 607 accused arrested for violating smog SOPs, Punjab Police Spokesperson
Under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively engaged across the province, including Lahore, to prevent smog and protect the environment. Strict actions are ongoing against those burning and stubble and crop residues in various districts, including Lahore. In the last 24 hours, 22 cases were registered for violating smog SOPs, resulting in the arrest of individuals, fines for 5 others, and surety bonds collected from 3,925 individuals.
While sharing details of overall crackdown this year, Punjab Police spokesperson said that a total of 758 cases were registered against violators responsible for causing smog by setting fires to stubble and crop residues and other sites. Across various districts, including Lahore, 607 individuals were arrested for violating SOPs, with 282 individuals fined and 3,925 individuals required to submit surety bonds. In the provincial capital, 24 individuals were arrested as part of the anti-smog crackdown, with 17 cases registered and surety bonds collected from 7 individuals in Lahore. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed an intensified crackdown against smog on highways, industrial areas, and other locations, He stressed that operations against high smoke emission vehicles should be strengthened through Safe City camera monitoring. IG Punjab instructed that a zero-tolerance policy be enforced against factory and kiln owners involved in burning crop residue, garbage, and other violations.
